I have two questions:
1. Does the M12000 fit the 03+ Sahara bar? If not, then what does?
2. I hear the M12000 is much heavier than the 9~ because of the rope. If you'd install synthetic what's the downside?

Yes the M12k comes with 125ft of 3/8" steel cable vs. 100ft of 5/16" steel cable on the smaller models. That makes for most of the difference in weight, but the unit itself is still larger and heavier.
Downsides to synthetic? Far as I know only a couple, namely price. The Warn winches have the brake assembly inside the drum, this is why the drum gets warm. I've read that if you power out the winch a lot you can heat the drum up, and it's possible to melt the synthetic rope.
FYI, Superwinch does not have the brake assembly inside the drum and this does not suffer form this issue. For that reason Superwinch certifies their winch for use with synthetic rope and Warn does not.
