So, the wife and I realized we were running low on the granite cobbles we are using to make a cobbled space in the backyard. Rather than have the Rock Co. deliver them...we took the Cruiser and loaded up:

Here's the side view under load:

And, after unloading:

I'm running a 2.5" BDS Lift (it was groaning a bit on the five mile drive back from the Rock Co.)

(Don't ask about the bumper--that's a whole other post for a different day!)

amazing what these suckers can hold. We bought a full size side by side refrigerator threw it in the back and closed the tailgate

Man, that looks almost exactly like the load of landscaping blocks I picked up from Home Depot a few weeks back.

Even more so since my cruiser is exactly the same color with same tint treatment.

Good job!

Beaufort,

I think I'm the fourth owner... One of the previous owners is In2Cruisers. I think he tinted the windows. I'm pretty happy with the tint-job, other than the scuffs I've managed to make in the tailgate glass tint!

it looks pretty nice and shady in there. Is it real dark tint? I thinking about doing the back of mine this weekend.

Good looking truck and if that is your house in the back ground.....great looking house :)

Nice looking cruiser!! Are you a Minor Threat fan?

nice, just so you know, I tinted my 88 62 back windows dbl black limo,,, very dark,, keeps people from seeing the arsenal/tools, but is hell when trying to back up at night,, I have had to open the hatch to see

I recently put about 25,000 lbs of limestone, sand and bricks in my 62, One load was 1,300 lbs (calculated by the number of bricks). I would post picks of my rock garden but most of is already hidden by vegetation. Maybe in fall or winter.

CalFJ60,

Yeah, thanks, my cruiser and my house. I can't believe it either! The wife is the chief executive in charge of paint color and house finding. I'm the chief executive in charge of picking up heavy objects, climbing ladders to paint the high parts, etc. Thanks.

PS: I see your local--we're just South of the Miracle Mile...

PAFJ,

To answer your question: I'm not 5'4", and I know exactly what I'm fighting for!

3Pits,

I like the tint job on mine, but I have the same problem backing up at night... I'm planning on adding an auxillary back-up light or two...eventually.

Archie,

Here's the finished product:

Damn, archie. 25,000 lbs? THAT is impressive. Would they let you drive down asphalt roads?

Hey I live in Gundo and if you need anything or want to get together for a beer let me know...by the way nice dog...I have a sheppard:) :)

I did about 25 1000 lb trips. i get on craigslist and pick up stone and materials that people want to get rid of in the Free section. Stone in the Midwest/chicago starts at 12 cents a pound. Moving 20,000 lbs of limestone and flagstone is worth it, saving me a few thousand dollars.
I had a >250 lb rock with my brother(180) and I(140) sitting on the tailgate. It held us.
I used 1/4 inch plywood rough cut to slide in between the wheel wells. I put a tarp underneath that to limit my mess. I use small PVC pipes (cut to 2-3 ft lenghts) to roll >300 lb rocks around on top of the on the plywood (like blocks of the pyramid). I used a crowbar to lift the rocks on/off the PVC rollers. I'm suprised I didn't mess up my tranny. Mighty 3fe!

Nice,I like the informal look. I think you used more than 900lbs in total because it looks like you used the granite lenghtwise. How much is the granite in your neck of the woods? What type of plants did you use in between the pavers?

Archie,

Yeah, we were definitely going for a European Rustic Cobbled look--to match the style of the house.

We used WAY MORE than 900lbs... The 900 was just additional as we ran out. I think at the end of the day we used about 4,500lbs. The first 3,600lbs. were delivered on a 20' flat bed and moved with the biggest forklift I've ever seen.

We got a smoking deal...the guy at the Rock Co. even speculated it was a mistake, but he honored it. The slighty nicer grade than what we got was $28/sq. ft. We paid $2.72/sq. ft. (we figured about 26lbs/sq. ft.) I guess that's actually pretty close to your $.12/lb.

The wife did all the planting today. She used a combo of Creeping Thyme, Scottish Moss, and Baby Tears (for the shady areas only).

But yes...MIGHTY 3FE!!!

here's pics of my rock project. All materials brought in by the 62 and all the items once sat on the tail gate including the heavy beach. The patio area is made of bricks, sand and boarded by blocks of limestome. I did this to hide the cracking cement underneath the old patio.

Archie,

Wow, nice work! I showed the wife and she said that's the look that she's going for. In fact, I have specific instructions to ask what the plant is in the bottom photo, that's leafy, closest to the grass. To be more specific, the plant with the two-tone leaves. The bench is awesome.

I've definitely had myself and a hundred or more pounds of photo gear on the tailgate at once, but nothing like you, your bro and the granite. Good to know it can handle that much weight.

Take care.

thanks for the compliment!
The two tone grass-like leaf is a varigated grass(unknown name) the spreads. I don't know if it will like it in LA but it does like sun. The one that is more bushy that is clooser to the edge of the solid green grass lawn is a hosta. Hostas, I think need a winter to thrive, so I don't think they do well in LA.
Everything isn't perfectly placed yet( like the cresent shaped stone in the first picture) because I put rock everywhere to keep myself from tripping over all that rock. It's amazing how many times I will move a rock in order to get the right position.
The thing that I learn from placing rock is that there should be different shapes of rocks in a grouping of 3,5 or 7. One large(to visually anchor) and a few small (some reclining to give horizontal feel and some round). The majority of the rock should be buried in the ground and the "fattest" part (like an iceberg in the water).
I think rocks are more important in winter climates because it gives landscape texture to a leafless environment. I recently planted evergreens so my view will be alot better in the winter and will be removing more of the other plants as the evergreens get bigger.
