Last week I joined forum after buying my first landcruiser. I love it by the way, Korean made DD has not been moved since.

I mentioned that I had a leak or two underneath and admitted that I know only how to change fluids, I know it's embarrasing. But I do want to learn & know what I'm talking about when/if i do have to take it in if something big goes wrong.

It was suggested I clean it up underneath (in progress) then send in photos for opinions. I do realize that I should be grateful if this is my only issue at the moment and I am but if you gotta second, your comments would be appreciated.

Sorry if the pics are small, I max'd out the attach limit

Thanks

is the leak on the flywheel inspection cover?

Hard to tell from this pic. Check out the attach pics in the FAQ to get yours bigger in the future. I've posted some pretty easy ways recently, search it.

If it's red then it's ATF probably from the torque converter seal if not the pump, it it's originating from inside the bell. If it's black and is originating from inside the bell area it's likely the rear main seal. Take off the cover and look real closely up inside with a flashlight, should be able to ID it.

You must narrow down what lesk oil is.
Depending on location of leak, it might engine oil or ATF.
If it's engine oil, it must problem at rear main seal or oil fan gasket.
Otherwise, if it's ATF, common problem is torque converter seal.
( I don't know so much about automatic transmission because don't have experience with auto tranny.)

Oh, Min Seok

I'm still trying to narrow down what the hell lesk oil is. I don't think I have an oil fan gasket either. :D

i have an 88 fj62, with 192,000 miles and it leaks in the same area. my mechanic told me it was rear seal leak. if you keep checking your oil, tranny and gear fluid levels. it'll be easier to figure out what is leaking from where and why. hope this helped. i'm a wannabe fixit myself guy.
