Greetings from San Jose, Costa Rica.
Recently I installed the 861/862 OME springs on my 94 DD. Driving conditions are bad roads and dirt with the occasional river crossing. It has a factory big roof rack that weighs about 50 pounds maybe). The pics are from the PO. The old springs were very sagged in the front and I had cruiser lean. I still have the tiniest amount of lean and it almost sits perfectly level. Tires are 245 75 16. I didn't replace the shocks yet and they seem original, but fine. It is on my list. I'll go with Toyota OEM.
I know the 862s are for 0-200 pounds and are just soft enough for the rough roads down here while allowing me to load up without fear of bottoming out.
The 861s in the front are harsh. I've read MAF/Slee site info and read all the posts I could find on 851 vs 861 and there is conflicting info that the 861 are for unmodified trucks and also for those with a front bumper and winch. Slee's site says that the 861 is for 110-250 pound. The rate is stiffer, but other posts say that for a very small lift and no armor, etc. 861 is the way to go. The 851 is listed as "light load" on some posts/sites and "medium load"
on others.
I measured my hub to center fender last night and got:
F: 21 1/2 w/ 861
R: 22 1/8 w/862
This is almost identical to a fellow mudder (I forgot to note who) who has 851/862.
So... my big question is... is the 861 really what I should be running or should I swap them out for 851s. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Jason
