Working on my A/C last piece of my LS swap replacing parts before I put everything back together. I have read thru a few A/C refreshing posts and some Expansion valves in the photos have no adapter. Now the existing E/V has an adapter that is silver in the photos and also beveled at the end so the adapter gets tight before it runs out of thread. The new one that came with the Denso E/V is not beveled. And does not seem to get tight until it runs out of thread. I could use the old one, but it was cross threaded inside so the sealing surface is gouged.

I recently used the denso one with the adapter on my 1985 FJ60. A couple of months later it seems to be working fine. Although now, something in side the cab whistles at me when the compressor kicks on and off.

The threads do not form the seal on either side of the adapter. It is the o-rings and the ferrule that fits into the valve side of the adapter. You shouldn't need any teflon tape.
