I’m new to owning a HJ/FJ45 and also to this site.

I need help in the following areas:

Need engine manual for the straight 6 Diesel

Advice where to buy all new door, window ,top weather-strip/gaskets

How to match touch up paint to the original? Cream color?

My goal is to have a class B+ drive once a week truck principally for in city errands.

I would like to:

add power steering

add heater and defroster. I believe the left hand drive truck is from South America

Should I consider adding front disk breaks?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

hi, welcome to the addiction :P

first up, is it a 2H? on an 84 it should be a 2H engine. you can check the data plate on the firewall to find out

Hi Don,

Noticed you are in Seattle. Was this the HJ45 that was on Craigslist recently? If so I've been drooling over that one. Nice purchase! Are you doing the work yourself or having someone do it for you? We have a good cruiser community in the Seattle area so you are in good company.

For the gaskets OEM are the best. There are tons of threads with reviews on here. I ordered some through CCOT, Cruiser Corps, and our local Land Cruiser shop Tor Fab.

Disc brakes up front will make a big difference in stopping power. Heater and defroster addition shouldn't be too bad if the plumbing lines are there. Power steering is a nice addition, but not entirely necessary. That being said there are several routes for adding this. I think the brakes and heater will make your commute better.

I liked that as well!

congrats!

the drums will stop it well(as good or better than disc), if they are all up to stuff and adjusted(and done often) but often they are not and work rather poorly. If the current drums are in need of work, it can make sense to upgrade to disc, they take less(none) adjustment, easier to work on(at least to me) work better when wet and overall stop better.

post up some pics of the truck so we can see what color the paint is. Cream may be faded tan or beige or it may have been repainted at some point.
I have had good luck with rattle cans' made to match the paint, take the kick vent off and have it scanned and they put it in a can.

Torfab is not far if your looking for a Cruiser specific shop.

This rig came out of Arezona via eBay
I will have Torfab do the power steering and most of the window gaskets
I'm attempting to do the t.o. Where there is some rust.
Torfab will do the heater. There never has been one.
