Hey all,

I have been trying to figure out if I can remove my T-case from the H55F for rebuild without removing the transmission from the truck. I have been through my Haynes manual and some of the other manuals I have found on this site but have not been able to find any concrete directions. Should I prop up the transmission before removal, etc...

Thanks!

You understand you don't really remove the t-case, you disassemble it, right? You can disassemble with the transmission in place. I wouldn't do it though for two reasons.

1) The high low shifter is hard to get in the right slot in the best of circumstances, and

2) It can be difficult to get the idler shaft thrust washers to stay in the right place.

It's only a few extra minutes to pull the tranny/t-case as a unit, and then fix the t-case on the bench. Beter access=less frustration=better repair in the end.
