Eric's restored 80, looks awesome  We added the 2inch metal tech spacers on the front to get rid of the stink bug he had going on. We had a time with his but over came it. :D

Looking good! What roof rack is that?

I seen to recognize that rack as well... although the last time I saw it, it was heading North at about 25 mph as we were heading South.

:D

Quality tested

Not really a project, but worth posting. I started blowing my "gauge" fuse on my 97' and come to find out there are about 60 circuits on that one fuse.
I tried a few things but checking 60 possible problems makes me dizzy. So I have stock piled fuses and continue to have power windows, AC, all gauges work and many other important things that only work if zero out of 60 circuits do not short out or fail. I hope no one here has to deal with the same problem.:bang:

replace the fuse with a circuit breaker at least it will reset after it trips till you find the offending componet

Thanks Paul. I looked for a breaker but I can't find one down here. I think it is related to a transmission sensor or when the engine is over 195 degrees. It only happens when I am going up steep inclines.

where in hell did you find STEEP inclines in your area? :eek:your not parking the 80 on top of the garage are you? LOL

what amp is the fuse?

oh !!! after an other cup of coffee realized U B down south. forgot ya have internet on top of the mount.

The only steep inclines is the boat launch:idea:

If this need to be moved to tech I totally understand. I just thought that if searching for answers this would pop up for a guy that had to diagnose 60 different possible problems in just one little 10 amp fuse.

I drove about 7 hours today up and down pothole ridden dirt roads and didn't have one problem. I had all 60 circuits firing at the same time so eliminating anything while driving was not possible. It is so hot down here right now that those are the only field tests that I have done.

Sorry to hear of your fuse issues Issac let me know what you find in the case I ever run into it.

My favorite mod to date, I think its my 3rd and final revision. We camp in the 80 for Scout and Club outings and we're always comfy :)

Pull pins, had to grind the edges off the brackets and repaint to fit my quick release pins.

Your rig is looking pretty trick.

I have found the problem! It is only when I switch to second gear that I have the problem. I have 37 inch wheels and 4:88 gears and while trying to keep a high RPM while climbing I was downshifting because I think the transmission was confused. I don't like automatic transmissions and never will. Everything else is OK except for the $4.54 for a gallon of gas. Good thing the turbo and many other things give me about 19-23 MPG.

19+ mpg, holy smokes!

I like the deck Larry, I need to do that one day!

19 mpg is under estimating. I have another 80 series naturally aspirated and it weighs at least 900 to 1200 lbs less and only get about 10 to 12 mpg with a 3 inch lift and 35's. Turbo + larger exhaust + some one that knows what they are doing (not me) = better gas mileage.

Great work Larry. Looks great.

Thank you gents, I'd certainly take that mpg Isaac and at that price on fuel  you certainly need it.

I amazed by what this truck gets per MPG I have owned 3 80' series and this one is incredible. I am also glad it is a gasser. The diesel down here is very dirty and changing filters down here gets very old with my BJ-40. I know most people like diesel but the grass is aways greener on the other side. I have owned several BJ-40's and Fj-40's and the FJ's are always more fun to drive and have more pep. You may save like $10 per tank but is it really worth it???????? To me, no.

Found the problem with the "fuse". The second gear communication was going to ground while shifting. I cleaned all contacts/connections and all is well. Driving in hill/mountain country can play hell on an automatic tranny with a heavy truck.
