I UPGRADED from a 95 taco that i built from stock and knew everything about it. Since the buyback, i looked for a replacement rig to replace it with before parting with it. After looking at several runners and pickups, I ended up with a 93 cruiser. Pretty sure its got an ome lift and its supposed to be welded front and rear, though i suspect it may possibly have a lockrite in the rear since i recently heard racheting sounds coming from the rear.
I havnt had time to tear into it and assess what drivetrain mods it does have yet and was hoping someone here will know the rig. It came from NC, the guy i got it from in ky traded for it and he didnt know all the details of it.

I would like to know what mods it has that i may not know about, and mods that anyone else would recommend for it.
Its mostly a wheeling rig, but has to be streetable. Has almost 200k and lacks power and pep at times offroad.

My wishlist includes: E-lockers front and rear, regear with maybe 4.88's if thats whats recomended (35 x 12.50's)

other than that, i really dont know what else would make me happier with this rig. Wheels great, cage wasnt done the best, but it is what it is i guess. lol may re-work it sometime.

also, love the site! been a big help to me with getting to know my rig so far.

Welcome to MUD :flipoff2:

Great looking rig......looks like lots of fun waiting to happen. Ive only seen 2 full boddied 80's w/ cages here in NC but they were both 97's. Is that white w/ liner along the bottom and flare areas? Where are you at? might want to check your local chapter.

My first concern would be the welded front diff. IF this is true i would be working to undo that ASAP on a full time All Wheel Drive vehicle. Cant be good on road and your begging to break something on that hair pin 3pt turn on the trail.

The 93 should have teh 1FZ-FE so your left for gears to get that umph back and id say your right on track w/ the 4.88 unless you plan to go to bigger meats at some point. But for retaining streetability id keep it smaller to keep your hwy rpms down.

For budget reasons you may think of an Aussie in back (if its indeed welded) to save some funds, or as a temporary solution till you find 2500 bux and a set of locked axles :D But foremost id spend some money on baselining the truck. There is a great section in the FAQ sticky that covers typical baseline procedures.

Best of luck and ENJOY !!!

Thanks, I guess I forgot to mention that it has manual aisin hubs which is nice for the road. As for the elockers, I have located some axles for around 800 bones for both plus shipping :flipoff2: BUT unfortunately I am with the majority of the country and have to conserve funds to get some bills paid off :crybaby: And yes it has liner along the bottom.

Im in KY, I Havnt really seen much activity on here from ky folks. Im the VP for the ky chapter of TTORA also, Which was my biggest help for the taco, but not too many guys wheel 80's over there so knowledge and support is limited. Im glad I found a second home here!

Youll find its a very welcoming forum and a great place to learn more about your new 80 than you ever imagined. I too started on ttora and finally saw the light :D and picked up an 80 and havent looked back. Tons of collective knowledge here as well between the members in general and FAQ/tech forums.

So Harlan is your local playground eh? not too shabby. you should see some 80 folks around there.

Never seen that rig out here...... if you are on a budget and it can be put in 2wd then i'd say leave the front welded for now. Nice looking rig though i've been thinking about an exo like that... could you post up some more pages....

Where the hell did you find some locked axles for that price???

Cool truck! I like the exo-cage, and the fact its a white '93 of course.

the cage looks errr.... interesting but also looks kinda skimpy. I don't think I'd do anything where you could really need a strong exocage to protect your life or your truck, no offense intended.

It needs some more cross bars up top

I've seen pics of it... a friend of mine sent me pics of it when he tried convincing me of not cutting my junk, but rather just exo'ing it....

and apparently before all the stickers!

That pic was actually after the stickers. That was at ttora national takeover at harlan. Very nice park by the way. I did get it from Mig Offroad. The short time they had it, they slapped stickers all over it.

Like I said about the cage, It is what it is... lol I agree its kind of skimpy. needs more bars in several places, also i'm not going to brag about whoever done the welding either. It has served its purpose for me a few times and kept me off a few trees on some tight trails, but I know its not gonna hold up in a rollover.

Welcome..Looks good! Although I agree with e9999..the cage doesnt look like it will do too much to protect you.

I was wondering if anyone could answer this ?
The abs light is on, I figured that either a sensor or something was bad, or it was just unhooked for wheeling purposes. But after researching cruisers and daydreaming about mods, I came to the conclusion that the cdl has to be locked for it to drive with the front hubs unlocked. while being locked, it disables the abs so the light comes on.
now to the ?'s
there is not a cdl switch installed, so what would be a typical way to "permenantly" lock the center diff?(either mechanically or electrically)
I want to get a cdl switch, but it would be pointless if i cant figure out how to undo the "permenant" lock
Am i supposed to have a cdl indicator light on the instrument panel? Ive never seen one.

Do the abs brakes actually work decent? if so, how could I get them to work with the center diff locked and front hubs free? or is that a bad idea all together

Good to see you aboard man. nice 80.
