So I'm an 80 guy and been wanting a 100 for a while now. I'm not letting go of my 80 of course but I'm on a real tight budget and wanting ya'll 100 folks opinion on my thoughts.

I'm currently looking at a 100 with 274,000 miles for $7500 but I seem to not be able to live with how much miles it has, so I'm thinking of buying an engine with waayy lower miles and doing an engine swap. As I'm writing this I haven't had a chance to price out how much would an engine be and the labor costs but I'll definitely do that tomorrow.

Do you guys think it's worth doing so? My budget is an additional $5000 on top of the $7500....Any input helps and well appreciated!!

Why not just up the budget to $12.5k and save yourself the headache? It would be worth more in case you ever sell it too.

If you love your 80, I think anything is worth it! I would give Slee a call and talk to them. They recently did this same project and can probably give you better insight than any of us. I ran with it at CM11 this past year and it was pretty sweet.

My ultimate rig..... is the:

LINKY

The video was pulled, but it is a 60's body on an 80's chasis.... then get the hundy's engine in there..... HMMMMMMM.....

I've actually thought about that, but all 100's I've seen in this price range almost have the same amount of mileage or just trashed. That's why I thought of just swapping out the engine.

Reality is, unless you have the skills to do this yourself..... you are looking at paying pretty close to that amount. That is why I recommended talking to Slee. Since they just finished doing this conversion last Spring, they will be better than any to help you understand the cost and challenges.

The way I read it was he wanted to swap the newer engine into the older 100. Nothing to do with the 80.

Exactly. Hes talking buy a 100 and swap a lower mileage 2UZ into it.

I say if you're doing engine swaps just put a 2UZ in the 80. Forget getting into a rig you don't know. Or up your budget and get a newer 100, sell the 80.

Hoser, you are correct that's what I wanted to do.

Are you going to swap the tranny too? I'm guessing this more likely to fail than the Lexus V8.

Offer 'em $4500 cash and drive it for another 10 years.

:meh:

They'll take it.

The engine is the least of the worries, if they've kept up on timing belt, water pump, etc. I'd be more worried aobut ride quality (shocks, bushings, springs, tb's, etc) than the 4.7.

IMHO, the 4.7L is one of the best engines ever built. But, if 274,000 bothers you, I see that cars.com lists 23 of the 100 series L.C.s right now in the U.S. that are less that $12,000 and with fewer miles (in many cases with 100,000 fewer miles). Get one of those with a good history, have it shipped, and you're still within your budget.
