I bought a RAM mount, the kind that would attach to like a boat hand rail. It is a ball and mounting base with a ubolt.

Then I got some rubber hose, slid it onto the ubolt, the rubber hose helps the ubolt stay in place when tightened down.

I put the ubolt on the factory rear view mirror arm toward the top of the windshield with the ends pointing toward the back of the cruiser, attached the mounting base to the ubolt, tightened it down so it clamped onto the rear view mirror arm. I used the shortest arm sold by RAM mounts, attached it to the ball and GPS Ram Bracket, and my GPS rides between the top of the rear view mirror and the sunroof console. It sits just about like Waggoner and Bulls pictures show.

The only problem I have is under certain lighting conditions, the GPS Screen is hard to see. I have a Garmin GPS III+. I plan on getting a better GPS with a bigger color screen sometime this summer.

Mounted in a 40th aniversary. Required flipping of the screen, its out of the way and blends in. I remote mounted the antenna.

I guess the direction buttons are opposite also? Up is now down on the screen, Down is UP, Left is Right, and Right is left on the screen? Did you fix that too, or just get used to it?

GPS mounting

Greetings:

I did this with my Garmin IQUE GPS/PDA. Installed permanant mount Gillson antenna with 16 ft cable. Much better and quicker reception. I routed the cable to the shift consol with slack left over for attachment to the IQUE. Added constant 12v pin recepticle to power the unit. Found a Seideo cradel for the IQUE. This doubles as a loud speaker and power for the IQUE and provided a perfect platform with which to modify the ashtray for attachment.

This ashtray modification provided a solid suface with no "bounce" in the unit.

Pretty nice idea for the iQue...
I found a garmin Universal PDA holder for mine, and its nice it slides into the Streetpilot base mount:

Thats my other GPS mount solution.
The PDA connects to a Belkin Bluetooth GPS receiver, that I toss up on the dash by the A pillar.
