I have been doing a ton of research and was originally going to purchase a 60 or 80 but....... so I have come to either an (80/LX, 100/LX470. 27 Days of the month I am going to drive to work 20 minutes each way--somedays through 3 feet of water...... the other 3 or 4 days I am going to wheel the hell out it in the local jungle. With the truck I end up with I will put on a snorkel, ARB bull bar, Springs/shocks/lift, winch, lightforce, arb diffs if they aren't included, etc. My buddies drive rubicons that are lifted/snorkeled etc. I know both the 80/100 will be great----it is just hard to decide which one I would be more satisfied with.....any thoughts or opinions?

So the pros of the 80
--solid axle
--dual locking diffs
they still sell them in South America
they are cheap right now becuase of high oil prices,
heavy--good in a accident
lots of products to modify
you can run 35's :)
it would be cheaper so I could install all the mods to start with
built in Japan

Cons
--birfs
--brakes--no big deal if you plan ahead
--head gasket
--older......

Pros of the 100
V8 with equal or better gas mileage
Bigger
good reliability so far
2000+ has stability--you can add arb's
big and heavy for an accident
cheap becuase of the high oil prices
LX470 version already has lift
LX470 has xenon
built in Japan

Cons
independent front susp.
not as pretty as an 80

Why do you consider the birfs a con?

It sounds to me like you do not need rubber-booted joints where you will be playing.

Becuase most likely I am going to either have to get them repacked or buy replacements from you. ;)

What could be wrong with that?

I've been in Central America where they run mostly LCs, and if you are truely going to do what you say here, why on God's good earth would you want CV boots when you can have a solid axle?!

Those roads can be nasty indeed, and there are a lot of things that can/will tear up a CV boot. Yes, you may have to service the front axle every 60-90K, but you will be replacing axle boots every 15K if you go that route.

Just my :princess: .02 :flipoff2:

When I get one I'll send some pics.....I am starting to think a 94 80 may be the way to go---less likely to have head gasket failure--and cheap :)

Point well taken on the solid axle.
