I have a whole bunch of 80-90 GL-5 from when I owned my 06 Tundra. I remember back then having a hard time even finding 85-90w stuff. Is the 80-90 OK for my GX's front and rear Diff?

I read some other threads and even talked to my Lexus dealer. They use 75/90 on all the parts. I am going to use up what I have and switch to 75/90 next time. I can't imagine it mattering. I change mine all the time as I will be off roading it and doing water crossings. It's just cheap insurance to do it every year or if you drench the top of the axle.

I'd also like an answer for this. I've been using the Delo Gear ESI 80w-90 for a couple years in both diffs and the transfer case, no problems yet. I would be surprised if such a small change is cold temp viscosity would really mess anything up. However, I am averaging 14.4 mpg over the past 20,000 miles, so maybe it affects that? Do other markets also spec 75w-90 or is it just a U.S. thing for fuel economy? I see some of the Australians are using straight 90w in all three.

What did you average before?
