I am new to the 70s world but not 4WD or Landcruisers. My first vehicle was a Willys Cj2A at age 16 and yes, I managed to roll it, getting pinned underneath in the process. Fast-forward 40+ years and I am now the new owner of a BJ 73. I am not as stupid as I used to be and do not plan on replicating any of my earlier physics experiments.
My question is rooted in my ignorance about the structural integrity of the 73/74 series - middies with FRP tops. So how well do these rigs do when put on their tops? I know that a number of variables come into play when talking about any collision, but I would like to know how well the built-in metal hoop does in any reported events.
Not planning on wrecking the new rig, but life happens - even on the way to the store on dry pavement. Also, not planning to modify or replace the stock rollbar system, just wondering how well they work.
Thanks!
