Yesterday I bought a Feb. 1979 FJ40 to sacrifice for my 65 lv wagon. A guy locally had started tearing the body apart about 6 years ago, made a mess and then quit. I've known about it for a while, but had really no reason to buy it until recently.

I specificly bought it for the front and rear axles. I wanted a 3.73 ring and pinion with disc brakes on the front. Probably end up using the brake booster, mastercylinder, lines and I'm sure some other misc. parts.

My main question is: The axles should be a direct bolt on item with no mods, correct? The drive shafts will be going to a 4 spd T-case, either the one on this 79 or another 4 spd T case I have out of another 79.

If anyone thinks of any other parts that I should use to update my lv, please speak up. I'm want a stock look, but I plan on updating the drive train quite a bit.

Thanks, Matt

axles are a "direct" bolt in. Rear shocks may mount differently, wont have sway bar mounts in rear. Brake line fittings are different and are routed differently. As long as you are using a parking brake drum and t-case front output flange with the correct pattern for the 79 driveshaft, they will bolt up. the early patterns are not the same.
