Well done! To only have those few things ( and I think he's being overly cautious) is awesome. Might I suggest finding a tyre placard that has the largest size available on an 80, you know for when an official in a blue uniform gets picky.

I've got these from the 80 i was going to try and salvage.. (just can't figure out how to get the pig up the hill near a power point )

these engineers are keeping the tow companies out of work. Beaters build the economy.

Man, that is being picky. What's the next step, getting the tags (licence plates) on it and drive.
It's not so bad. I found the ADR30 sticker from Toyota for $4AUD.

I also think the flasher unit from the 1985 BJ73 complies with ADR13 but i need to add Load resistors for the LED's.

The engineer needs to complete the application form and submit it to the local motor authority. It comes back with the necessary approvals and results in a mod plate which i need to rivet to the vehicle and photograph. Photos need to go back to the engineer to complete the application and results in a certificate. Once I have a certificate and report I can go to any road worthy inspection station to get inspected. Once it passes it'll result in a license plates and then I'm free to drive it around..

Being a rebody of an 80 series, theres extra steps involved with the mod plate and engineering certificate as they dont cater for rebodied vehicles.. its a few extra steps to get the mod plate and report noted as such. still some more hoops to jump through but we're on our way.

Thanks folks.. not quite there yet.. need to be driving the kids to school in it to feel like i've accomplished what I set out to do :p but this is a good feeling to see it complete like this.. the doors came off feb 21 2016.. some time ago!
They take some time, eh?

After sending photo's of the rear seat belt tags to the engineer he came back saying ADR4C expired in 1986 and because I'm using them on a 1994 chassis they'll need to be replaced.. so i put in the order for some fresh belts yesterday... they may take a week or so to turn up but no dramas really.

also ordered one of these to see if they help with the indicator issue: LED02 - Flasher Relays - LED | Tridon - https://www.tridon.com.au/products/Tridon/35/478/flashers-and-relays/104173/flasher-relays-led/1772/LED02

  • Load Sensitive.
  • Suitable for vehicles with LED rear and side directional indicators.
  • Conforms to the requirements of ADR13
  • Incorporates audible, visual globe failure (outage) indication.

I'll likely need to add load resistors to the rear as there is only incandecent bulbs in the front indicators, vs the LED's up front and in the rear.

It is necessary because even though he built it from the ground up using 3 Land Cruisers he may still not know how to fill a tire.

I've had Queensland police tell me my BJ42 was illegal a week after it had been at the engineer and been passed. The rules here are restrictive, often confusing and implemented in different ways. And politicians wonder why manufacturing in the Australian auto industry died.

You can also ring up the transport department asking for more information about a particular rule three different times and I guaranteed you'll get 3 difference answers. Bring into the mix police or highway patrol who aren't versed in the engineering particulars and they'll often get you for something completely legal (eg: no mudflaps), and miss stuff thats so obviously illegal (extended shackles). its a crazy world down here regarding vehicle mods but it helps fill the govt's coffers $$$
