79-84 Head Rests on 73-78 Seats?

Does anyone know if the later head rests will work on the earlier FJ40 bucket seats without mods like changing out the guides, tearing upholstery, hack-sawing, hammering, duct-taping, welding, cursing, etc?

I can tell you that the diameter of the head rest support bars are of a different diameter. The 79+ are smaller than the 78 and earlier. Also the guides are different between the two and are not interchanable.

Thanks for the response. I was pretty certain they wouldn't fit but I had a chance to buy the later style sight unseen. There's a lot more LC knowledge than there was a few decades ago so I'm never certain about anything anymore.

I've got a pair of 1978 FJ40 buckets with good headrests that you could get out of my way!

Wish I could afford a couple of seats but all I need is a pair of headrests right now. Nothing too fancy or anything. Something that can be recovered is fine.
