77 Carberator Issues
Hello - I recently purchased a '77 FJ-40 and I'm trying to work a few bugs out of her before its reliable to cruise around in.
It will run fine with the choke pulled and when I'm on the gas. I dropped it at a reputable shop and the outcome was: a small manifold leak, PVC hose was brittle and the carb may be clogged inside.
This truck originated in VA but was in Gunnison, CO since 2003. I have no idea if it was jetted to run leaner. I don't think it was but I know a rebuilt carb was installed in '04.
As opposed to having a shop rip into it and find out that I need to replace mulitple components inside, I thought I would just buy a rebuilt one so I can do a plug a play myself.
Any ideas on what other options I can explore? I have seen disected carbs so I don't fancy rebuilding one myself
. Specter Offroad has one model earlier (11/75-7/76 Federal ) and one later (11/75-7/76 Federal ). I need 8/76-8/77 Federal as my truck is a 4/77 Federal. Do you think any of the others would work?
I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
