I did a search but could not find the answer. I have a 1977 FJ40 with 2F and am missing the sending unit and wires to the firewall to the carb fan. Does anyone know where that sending unit is and what the connection looks like? I can ground the wires I have together and the fan comes on, so the rest of the system appears to be intact. Where does it attach to the motor? Any help is appreciated.

Sending unit (switch) should be on a simple bracket mounted to the outboard side of the intake manifold, to the rear of the PCV port.

It doesn't show well on this diagram, but the bracket is part no. 91.

I don't have that on mine but I believe the temp. sensor is under the exhaust manifold. I think the relay is rectangular and probably mounted on the firewall or maybe even in the cab. I know I've seen one at one time but can't remember for sure. I only answered this because I didn't see any other replies. Maybe do a search on this and see what you can come up with.
