77 and 73 FJ40's in Georgia $2500 $2500
I have decided to go a different route on a project and I can't get to these anytime soon so I thought I'd see what kind of interest there is here for them. First off these are projects or as I planned a combined project. Both are pretty much complete and together would make a good FJ40 with a lot left over to sell off. That was my plan but I won't bore you with the details.
Anyway I will break them down as best I can and field questions as they come. You will also note that I only will show one picture of each since I fully realize that after reading this post there will be a lot of requests for specific pics which I will be glad to provide.
Here goes:
1977 FJ40 - I found this cruiser a few years ago in Floride. I went and looked at it but couldn't work out a deal. I ended up buying it in March of this year.
The story on it is this: It has sat since 1997. The PO stated that it blew a head gasket and he traded for it. He had the head reworked which I can tell is true by looking at it and re-installed it. He never got back around to finishing it up, grew up and moved away. It sat in Fla at his fathers until I got it.
The picture I have listed is when it rolled home with me. You can see an odd rust pattern which basically caused a lot of damage to the hood and front fenders and bib. I attribute this to it being close to the Gulf and the direction it was facing. The cruiser is complete minus the rear Jump Seats and a few odds and ends. It had a carburetor but I damaged it when removing the engine for restoration.
Currently this 40 is taken apart in my shop. I have the tub off the frame.
Here is what I have done to it so far:
Took it apart carefully. Wiring harness from cowl back removed and it is uncut and good.
Tub was removed.
Frame, front and rear diffs, springs were sandblasted and it is SOLID with a little pitting on the rear and the left running board support. I put two coats of MASTERCOAT SILVER, and two coats of AG111 from Mastercoat on it and it looks great now.
Engine - Before i removed it I didn't start it but I did turn it over. I didn't check the compression but it seemed to have a plenty. I have no reason to believe that it won't run fine. The engine was cleaned well and painted and put back in place with new motor and transmission mounts.
Transmission - 4 speed and shifts nicely as well as the transfer case.
Tub - Here is where a lot of work has been done but needs more. All in all this a solid tub. I replaced the drivers side floorpan with some 14ga along with a couple other small spots. The fuel tank area has some rust and I would probably replace that area too. The rear bed is real good and the rear sill is good. I have replaced the left rear corner. The right rear corner needs to be replaced. I have used 16ga metal for this. The upper part of the cowl is great.
Doors - are decent needing repairs at the bottoms.
Interior and dash is good. All knobs and gauges are good. Steering wheel and steering good. Electronics were checked and worked good before taiking it apart.
Front seats are pretty good and original but have some cracking. The fuel tank was drained for storing and is rust free. Rims are good but the tires on it are rollers only.
73 FJ40 - I bought this one from a guy here in GA who is/was also a MUD member. It has a 2F with a header on it. He stated it ran before he decided to get rid of it because he bought a Troll Hole carb and put on it. I got this cruiser for basically the front fenders, hood, and bib. The bib is not shown in the picture but I have it and it is in nice shape.
The PO stated that when he got the motor running he noticed that the lower pulley was a tad bit "wobbly". He took it apart and noticed that the keyway was a bit worn. It is still removed and looks to be and easy fix to me. The tub is pretty good and appears to have a couple of repairs in the tub that have been lined. It has REAL GOOD old style doors and was set up for amby doors but didn't have them.
I think the rear end is bad on the 73 in that it is making a popping sound when rolled. It also has front stock seats with covers on them and no Jump Seats. Top is solid but has a sunroof put in it.
I had in mind finishing the tub on the 77 and putting it back on the frame and taking all the front end metal off the 73 which is very good and straight along with the running boards.
These two 40's will make a very nice FJ40 with PLENTY of stuff left over to sell off and make some cash back. I have touched on the high points and I will be glad to discuss these cruisers with anyone who is TRULY interested. I know I will probably take a beating on these since projects don't ever bring what you have in them but so be it. I will seperate them if it comes to it but these would be better off to go together in that almost everything is there to make a good 40.
Also, I do have a clear Florida title from the PO for the 77.
I would encourage anybody that is interested to email or PM me and I will give you my number and we can talk that way I can describe it all.
I'm in West Central GA just north of Columbus.
I don't want to part these out but if it comes to it I will. Also, I'm listing this here first. If I don't get much interest I may go the Ebay route.
I am asking $4500 for the pair since I have to list one but I'm open to serious offers.
Thanks
