I'm in the process of restoring a 1977 FJ55. Thought I would post up some progress/questions regarding the stock air cleaner restoration.
As you can see the previous owner completely desmogged - no air pump, vsv, vtv's, ABV, air injection rail, etc. They also just chopped off the HAI (Hot Air intake) system from the air cleaner and removed the hoses, cold air intake horn, and exhaust insulator cover.

I obtained a used AC of the 7501-7901 vintage, diassembled it and had it blasted and powdercoated black. Below you can see the old vs new lid. Above it are the powdercoated brackets, insulating washers and the wax-type thermo valve unit in pieces

It's been awhile since I took the thermo valve apart - just want to make sure I have all pieces and have it assembled correctly. Below are pieces.

Here is how I assembled minus the spring

The questions I have are:
1.) Do I have all the parts correct and assembled correctly - I think I have it right
2.) I seem to remember the adjustment nut (notice the groove) having been coated in a black rubberized material - Is that correct? What would be the purpose of it?
3.) What is the correct way to adjust these valves. There are two things one can adjust. The first is the flapper linkage to the adjustment nut. The second is the depth the thermo valve is screwed into the fixed nut.
