Interesting. I don't know if something changed between the 75 and 76 years, but mine doesn't have a relay like yours. I'm not sure if it's required, I don't think the VR sees much current through those wires. Might want to double check a factory wiring diagram, if it's not needed, I would bypass it to see if that's causing a problem. I'm no electrical expert but something looks kinda weird there.

I believe that relay was put in by the electrical shop that put in the Transpo VR but am not totally sure.

They must have put it in there for a reason. Maybe I should replace that relay. How might I identify that relay part for replacement?

It's a standard 12V relay you can find in any electronic or automotive store. Mine doesn't have the relay, and it looks like we're using the same voltage regulator (different labels though). If it were me I would be tempted to bypass it and see what happens. The ign wire off the regulator should connect directly to the ign wire on the switch (i.e. unplug the relay and connect 86 and 87 together.)

I'll try the new Transpo VR and a relay, see what that does and then try removing the relay from the circuit as you suggest.

Zippy - any idea on this unusual set-up in the above 2 pics?
