I need some advice. I found a hard top and doors (front & ambulance). Does $1500 sound like a good deal for these assuming they are in as excellent condition as the owner describes (I've yet to see them). If it is a good deal, what sort of complications am I looking at in getting a '76 on a '72?

You'll also need to change out the front door striker plates for the '76 specifc ones. (D'Animal, beat me to it :)

And I've read (but don't know first hand) that there is some minor fitment work that needs to be done near the window wiper motor and fiberglass cap for clearence when bolting the cap on.

Search and you'll find tons of info this topic as many have made the swap.

Good luck and post up pics of the top and doors if you can.

Some of the earlier top windshield frames have a different bolt pattern on the front lip of the hardtop.

It will be easier to drill out the lip then to add nut to the windshield frame.

Make sure your windshield gasket is the correct one and it is installed correctly. The wrong one with the defrost vent holes in the wrong location can angle your windshield at the wrong angle. It will make fitting the front doors a real bugger.

i paid $500 for my hard top and rear ambulance doors that were rust free. one door has a tiny dent which will be easy to fix when the time comes

It really depends on if you are in the snow/salt Rust Belt on the price for Mint stuff.

A cherry 1971-1975 hardtop in central cal goes for around $400

A cherry 196?-1970 hardtop in central cal goes for around $250. it depends on if it has the Byfold door or has been converted to the rear hatch.

The 1976 - Newer hardtops with the pop out side windows go for a higher price in mint condition.

the rear of the cruisers are different .the amby door body has a recess for the rear doors so the doors are flush with the body the 71 is flat and the doors dont fit quite right.the lip is also in the rear sill.you can try it but may not like the looks .i did a 66 years ago and cut the body and put the recesses in and it worked fine good luck

Door Stops.......

The later door stops are easily installed by elongating the pillar post hole and drill 2 small ones for the mounting..........

I have a hard top and ambulance doors in good shape - some surface rust but structurally sound. I'm in South Dakota so a bit of a distance for you but you could have them for half that.

If you have an older front hoop cage the doors will not fit. The 76 up doors are thicker and the hoops go too far to the outside.
