Gents,

Anyone have any insight on installing an FJ40 hardtop, circa 1981 (top, side windows, doors (front and ambulance) onto either a 1971 or 1972 tub? The '71/'72 tubs have an earlier style hardtop, driver/passenger doors, with rear flip-up window/topgate and half "ambulance" doors.

Is this doable? Have you done it? Do the older driver/passenger doors come close to fitting the '81 hardtop?

10-Q!

What? Nobody?

Yes its doable and I've done a couple, but I can't find the pics on my 'puter:mad: The old style doors fit fine, but if you use newer doors striker mods will be needed and thats no biggie either.... holes need to be drilled and some long bolts will be needed for the amby door hinges where they mount to the tub, and the small issue of the lower striker.... I'll post pics as soon as I find them.....

Grant,

I'll be talking to you, as I think I scored the '81 with a pristine hardtop assembly, down through the doors.

Meanwhile, its off with the F-350 flatbed, ATV's loaded and horses behind, for a 6 day Idaho elk hunt. When I get back, I'll pull your ear! Thanks!

aside from the door latches you will have to modify the rear body to fit amby doors try the search function good luck

look at the rear bodies they are not the same late style amby doors are rescessed . you must have done a real hack job putting those on there if you even did it . the strikers are nice but your info sucks and so do you go look at a new 40 and a old 40 and if you dont see the difference then your a bigger dickwad than i thought . good luck to the guy that started this thread

Jim-

I've retro'd newer front doors to my 73 but no experience with the rears as I haven't had a top on for 10+ years. I like Grant's strikers, I think I'll copy those. Have fun on the Elk hunt and drop by when you're back in SD and you can see the new motor. Should be done this weekend...
