I purchased a 76 FJ40 yesterday. It drove great and we drove her 3 hours home with out much trouble other than having her die when we stopped at a stop sign and having her backfire once on the highway (we were going up a steep hill on the highway.) Now she dies every time she stops. This evening she wouldn't even start. Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks

Gheesh, I wasn't thinking. Posted in the 40 area. Thanks for pointing that out

If clear thinking was required half of us would not be allowed to post on the Forum.:)

I had similar problems this winter. I fixed it by replacing the wires and a fouled plug. My 76FJ40 has been running great since. The only other time he backfired was when I had the dual tank fuel lever accidentally set to pull fuel from both tanks. The backfiring was accompanied by flames shooting out the tail pipe and lurching. Good choice on a rig! 40s are so much fun. Good luck with the repair...
