I accidentally pulled 3 wires off the distributor while cleaning years of grime. The firing order is supposed to be 1-5-3-6-2-4 but my first 3 cylinders are in this order. 4-6-5. I never pulled those and the rig runs great. So which distributor points to cylinders 4-5-6 go to?

Thanks, Bonehead!

I would recommend that you draw a diagram of what you have right now (with only 3 plugs still connected to the dist. cap?) before you make any adjustments.

There have been a few instances on here where previous owners have somehow got the engine to run without following the FSM method of installation.

That being said, I can't imagine offhand how 3 consecutive (clockwise direction) distributor cap wires go to cyls 4-5-6 and the engine ran fine.

This is what I have now. The rig is new to me, so not sure how/why it got this way. But it was running great before I accidentally pulled the wires.

OKay, now we're getting some where!

the correct order is 1-5-3-6-2-4

If we work from the spark plugs, you have 1-?-3-??-2-???
So, ? = 5, ?? = 6, and ??? = 4.

In other words, put the lead from plug 5 into the cap at no. 1, plug 6 into no. 3, and plug 4 into no. 2.

Indeed, the last guy that installed the distributor got the distributor gear off by 60 degrees, necessitating moving each wire forward one position to make it work.

I would replace the wires as indicated above, WRITE THIS INFO DOWN SOMEWHERE where you won't lose it, so whenever someone has to (or is confident enough) to pull the distributor and reset it correctly, they'll have an idea on what to do.

@73FJ40 - You are my hero! Fired right up and running like a champ. And yes, I will save this info for Gary at Mudrak's to fix when he does power steering. Many thanks!!
