80 tank would have to be sideways and upside down to fit -- don't see how that is possible.

It was a real strange 79 build thread. Looked pretty screwy to me but I knew how I was doing my tank so I didn't care so much about that setup.

Well, I may not have a gas tank, but I have a freshly Powdercoated skid plate for the tank!!!!

Just sent email to Kurt at Cruiser outfitters @cruiseroutfit on the rear shocks. The bushing was shot on the top so got a replacement from ARB. Well, ends up the shocks are shot -- no rebound whatsoever -- so need to find replacement. Does anything on this car not need replaced?

Top has the style shock shown below end on both sides -- but with the DANA 60 – Venezuela built (and rebuilt) truck, has a 19mm Top pin and 16mm on the bottom. I can weld a new pin on top or bottom if needed.

I have been trying to make heads or tails of the OME guide with no progress. I don’t care if they are OME or not. Current set are OME, but the numbers don’t cross reference. Says 34685. They are about 28” fully extended; although truck looks like it only would need about 26” fully extended. I called OME/ARB and they could not help much.

Also... Front shocks are on as well as some new shiny parts...

Real time help, can someone tell me the distance on a 70 series between the emergency brake cable levers In the drums. I purchased a set for a 60 series, as it was much more available and affordable, but realized The axles are different widths. Where my screwdriver is pointing to in the picture

Was going though all the brake lines last night and found some patchwork done with copper tubing and compression fittings!! Oh my, that is scary. Tore it all out and made new lines, while adding the proportioning valve. I also decided to replace the rear wheel cylinders as the fluid I pushed through the lines looked terrible in the back. Thanks to @tornadoalleycruiser for brake line tools

Finally some good news, radiator shop called and they’re able to repair the tank! I left it for them just to clean it out so I could weld on it, but end of the day they’re able to fix it up!!!

With assistance from @StucknKS we got the donor 80 pulled out of the barn.... looks like some rodents took up residence under the hood....

well, I replaced both rear wheel cylinders and still was not bleeding well, so quickly made and replaced the last two solid lines on the rear axle. So, with that done, the brake system works. Finally!!

I have not had quite 2 months of work on this truck, and wanted to recap where we are on progress. Honestly was hoping that I would be closer to a moving rig by this point, so I thought it would be good for my soul to see what the DONE stamp can be applied to....

Front axle has replacement differential, all new seals and bearings, replacement hubs, spindles, and knuckle was replaced on pass side along with replacement locking hubs.

Rear axle has been completely rebuilt, new carrier with spider gears, new inner and outer bearings, and all new seals.

all new wheel studs all around and knuckle studs are all new.

gas tank has been pulled and shop is fixing leak, sealing the inside and coating the outside.

Braking system is almost all new. Only remaining hard brake line is from master along firewall to battery box area. Every other soft and hard line is new. New Drums and discs and wheel cylinders. Emergency brake has been completely replaced, cable and all parts on rear axle.

New centering bolts/pins on springs and reset the spring clamps.

Driveshafts have all new u-joints.

Having written this down is helping.....

What about just running a rear tank like I did with my 79 #1(although that was on an 80 chassis maybe a 70 chassis isn't so good for a rear mount tank)? Easy enough to have a tank guy make an aluminum one and you can mount the LX450 fuel pump, vents, return, rollover valve, etc. It was one of my main concerns on my build....being able to use the OEM parts. I think it was pretty expensive though...$700 maybe.

I have a this from my current project....somebody started a tank....at least I think that is what they were doing.

Hello,

If the transmission makes a click when changing gears it is still in good shape.

Juan

Look at rancho. A lot of there shocks come with a tube adapter kits to fit almost any application. It’s a matter of length and round eye on both sides. With leaf springs it should matter much. Also you have a lathe make the appropriate sleeve spacer if needed.

What I love about cruiser outfitters, is how quickly they help you. Within a few hours of my email, they figured out what I needed and had it in a box headed my way. @cruiseroutfit you are the bomb.com.

Can anyone point me in a direction to show me how to do this, what to do to check gears? I can't even figure out how to change gears with the box open.

Been trying to find a resource to help with the tranny... found this..

still looking for any video of how to diagnose issues when the tranny is on the bench.
