Man, I love that epoxy/paint combo. How much prep did you have to do for the primer?

I sandblast the parts, blow them off while wiping with a clean cotton rag, then they are ready to blow. Nothing else. If I touch them before primer I wipe that part down with some degreaser/cleaner; however, typically I will have some nitrile gloves on, so nothing to do.

I have more fish eye issues if I wipe them all down with cleaner, so I have learned to get them from blasting to primer as quick as possible.

I have done this combination for about 10 years now, and it holds up really good to the midwest winters and salted road life. The only parts that I have moved away from this and to powdercoating is parts that will get rock chips like bumpers and sliders.

Got the rear axle bearings out and cleaned up the tube ready for the new bearings to be frozen and installed. Only bad news there was the seal that I got with the bearings was the wrong size. Will have to head up a parts store to track down the seal

I heard from the machine shop and most of the engine is fine, but has been rebuilt before.... pistons have been bored out 20 over, crankshaft main and connecting rods have all been turned 30 already, and on the Mains, they got a little too aggressive and they’re about they are out of spec. So the original Venezuela crankshaft is not usable.

I pulled a crank from the motor that I knew number one had spun the bearing, so I took that in to see if it could be turned down. Found out that it also had been turned 20 under already, and there’s not enough material on number one, so I currently have two mailbox post if anyone needs one!!!!!

Got the front axle bolted in, New front differential installed and started working on the centering for the axle. Does anyone have a pdf of a FSM for a 70 series? I want to make sure the centering is the same as a 60 series, since the angle is different. (note- the centering tool is on upside down in the picture, oops. I corrected this after doing the first side.

My port parts order from Dubai came in, but it appears they were not able to get the pressure plate, only receive the clutch plate and release bearing. @c2dfj45 did you find a pressure plate?

Anyone want a matching pair of 1fz crank tables?

Nice! I have my old 1FZ flywheel saved for a key rack when the wife lets me bring it inside, which probably won't happen.

Dry ice.

You may want to consider finding an Allen head plug and remove that zerk if you decide to off-road this thing.

I've seen what you do and that would drag and get broken off.

Good point; however, don't plan to rock hop with this one.....

On another note, @FlatlandTRD came by yesterday to weld up his exhaust, and he helped me figure out the tranny gear ratio. It was just a hair over 4.5 revolutions in first gear to get one on the output, so that confirms it is a h151. Now to get some parts ordered.

H151
1st: 4.529
2nd: 2.464
3rd: 1.490
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.881

I saw you mentioned clutch in the 79 build thread.

Just talk to Georg and get a TT disc. I have ran the TT as well and it is just as good, I think I even read somewhere it uses Exedy parts.

Cheers

Super, I already have another email to Georg for transmission parts, so I’ll add that to the order

Finish buttoning up the front end, minus a couple parts I need to order.... then @cjmoon came over and taught me how to do the rear axle. Unfortunately, needed more pinion spacers, so wasn’t able to finish it up....

Trying to figure out the emergency brake..... this truck was missing all the guts inside the drum. It appears I am missing the part labeled 7663 it’s called a automatic adjust. Also the spring that I have doesn’t appear to work in this application with the emergency brake lever so I must need it also.... my only question is do I need to get a separate adjuster also? Does anyone have a good picture of the drum brake complete?

in this picture you can see that the spring won’t go over The lever and to the shoe

It appears to me that the spring attaches to the BACK side of the shoes. The bump-out in the lever is for clearance of the tip of the spring. Flip your spring so it attaches from the rear and see if it will clear.

It's fun watching you prove the doubters wrong with this thread. It's amazing what time, tools and talent can accomplish.
