I bought the lil camper 75 series that was forsale last fall in OR.
It was kind of a sight unseen purchase, by a buyer that really didn’t know exactly what he was looking at.
I knew it was diesel left hand drive and a camper, with factory lockers
Recently learned that it’s got some kind of custom cab and need advice or opinions on what to do next.

I purchased a new top panel and had it painted, only to realize that my top is custom extended about 5 inches as well as the back of the cab!
It was pretty nicely done, my body guy thinks it was done at the factory. (based on whoever did it’s access to factory everything to complete the extension)
Has anyone ever seen this ?

The work to extend the cab, about 5 inches is pretty extensive.
You can see (not very well in the photos) that they used two factory pieces sistered together

The VIN comes to a 97 75 series a little frustrated

So in the first post you can see that my cab is slightly longer than the factory 75 pickup
Here is a photo of the stretch on the inside

That does not look like factory body work to me. I'd suspect it's a custom roof cap/cab extension, potentially using some parts grafted from a 79 Series which was wider behind the door.

Awesome thank you for the feedback, We are going to cut the new factory roof panel use it as unfortunately patch pieces for the panel that came with the rig.
Unless someone has a different idea, that’s the first thing we came up with.
It seems a shame to cut up a new panel, however I think that the “easiest” way at this stage.

It’s unfortunate that I didn’t notice the difference before this was painted
On the off chance someone in the West has a 75 roof panel laying around that’s got a good drivers side front corner and some salvageable drip edge not going to cut this today

how about seeing if you can get a 79 cab? you might need new rear cab mounts, but maybe not.
I had looked into a cab swap briefly, when I realized factory body parts were available from the EAU. I decided to go that route, the new doors are 90% new factory parts. The parts I reused were the door glass & window lift mechanism.
It’s a huge upgrade to how it was, doors close really nice, latches work. Plus it looks great at this stage- I am not going to switch directions

I have not seen a 79 in person, looking at pictures it appears that they do not have a removable top ?
The cab back and top are removable on my set up, I guess the idea that it came from Toyota like this isn’t really logical.
Whoever did this work had access to what appears to be unlimited factory parts. The inner welds on the roof panel and not cleaned up very well.

It makes for a pretty comfortable cab, not cramped over the steering wheel
When I get it back to my place , I will have a chance to take better interior pictures.
Showing all the factory brackets and fasteners that were utilized. Another oddity is the E brake is on the Left side of the drivers seat, not jimmy rigged.

Hello,

Nice mirrors. Are they Australian?

75 Series trucks had a cab with folding windshield and removable top. 79 Series had a single piece cab.

Whoever worked on your truck grafted parts from a 79. It seems well done, except for the rust.

Maybe this truck worked in a mining operation in its previous life. That would explain the modification quality and the rust.

It is also possible that the previous owner had deep pockets to afford such a modification.

Perhaps you can use the top panel from a 79 Series.

Supposedly this was shipped all over the planet, as the owners wind surfing support vehicle.
Before Covid, it was in Baja from receipts in the rig I see it was in Oregon 2013.
Seems like it’s been in the states pretty frequently.

Progress on the cut and fill

With limited options, no real time constraints just not a ton of information or parts available.
My guy has got it tacked together, unfortunately cutting a brand new roof panel for parts.
Looking forward to getting it back together,

I had previously mentioned that the e brake was relocated, as well as the cab extension. Have been busy pursuing Swordfish with any spare funds and time. However hoods finally came back in stock at partssouq, and I ordered the vent cowl from some east coast parts guy.
