Will also post this on the expedition forum, but thought if one of these campers could be fit on a 75/79 series pick-up frame it would make a great camper/expedition rig. I would close up the access through the cab, but other than that they look like a well built camper even though they were built back in the late 80's.

Toyota called them the Sunrader and they came in 18 and 21 foot models. The 21 would probably be too big for the 75/79 chassis, but the 18 footer may work.

Would the hilux even push that camper along or past 50 kmph,
Duel wheels are cool

The literature I found listed 70 mph as a top speed, which is probably downhill with a tail wind. They came with 20 and 22 series motors. The first rear axles were a 5-bolt 1/2 ton semi-floater and they had major issues with them. They fixed this with a 6-bolt full-floater 1 ton version.

I have seen this thread. The European market has these type of campers, but here in the US the only one that I have seen that comes close to those was the sunrader.

I like the fact that someone thought " hey I'm going to use the zebra stripe material for my curtains"

I messured up a VW westfalia pop top as an idea for my 78, sadly 1 1/2" to wide, and I didn't even bother to measure length. Not to sure if other years were different sizes?

Hi Guys have not been on here for a while - have a look at "carry on campers" in Australia, pretty popular over there huge range in prices to. Had a look to see if we could get them here in NZ, but way to expensive. we use different decks here mostly local manufacture. Do not get the Cruisers with the wellside decks from the factory. We can get a factory deck but its all alloy and not very strong.

Cheers

there is a 21 ft camper hilux here in Ontario with 89,000Km on it, i went to look at it with the idea of transfering the unit onto my FJ75 frame ...
it was "okay" design but for $12K i will build my own with a pop top similar to the Icelanders design.
