700r4/wheel base stretch

It will depend on the adapter(s) used to put the 700r4 into your truck. I used the AA 700r4 to split case adapter which is ~ 8" or so long. When I flipped my rear springs and cut out the original torque bar/cross member than I had room for ~ 12" driveshaft. My SBC 350 is as far forward as possible without changing the stock radiator location and using a Taurus electric fan.

Too many variables involved to give more than a general answer IMHO.

What engine are you using, and where is it setting? What tranny are you switching from when you go to 700R4? AA's adapter is about 7" long. I sold them the 1" long Downey adapter (patterns, molds, drawings, inventory, the works) but I doubt they have it back on the market yet. I do have a customer returning a Downey 1" adapter, but it's for the older 3 spd. transfer-case.
I think you are stuck with the longer adapter anyway because the 1" adapter requires the smaller front output flange/u-joint, and it does not have enough built-in angle for your front soa drive shaft!!!

Right now it is a bare frame. I am putting an tbi sbc in the rig. I took out an sbc/sm420/3spd case but all mounts can be moved for the new drive train.

So there is NOTHING in the frame right now? No motor, nothing?
If that is the case, then get the engine, trans and t case positioned where it NEEDS to be for optimum function. Then worry about the rear axle and do what needs to be done. IT WILL FIT!
My set up is a 5.3 vortec, 4L60E trans, NP203 range box to a 19 spline split case. SOOOOOPER LONG!
I used FJ60 springs and FJ60 axles. The springs I flipped and shot the hangers and shackles back as far as they would go. I used the ruff stuff SOA kit which has 3 hole position and used the most aft hole for the axle placement and I have a 25 in drive shaft in there now. Pretty good considering the length of the drive train. Lots of folks said that it couldnt be done.
Your set up should be shorter than mine.
BTW, Im also using the stock mech. fan. The taurus fan did not save ANY length. If I had used it, it would have been the same as the Mech. fan.
