Anyone know a part number for the steering stabilizer? Anything that would be readily available in the US? Can't find the part on toyodiy's parts catalog. Thanks.

Jeff

Thanks! My understanding is that it's the same steering damper as the 60 series?

The OME one $180 and they said it will take "at least a week. Probably longer".

I think the steering damper is ok. Not certain. The original tires are still on the truck. They are cupped and dry rotting. Getting new meats for it tomorrow. Then I will see if that solves the issue.

The issue was a slight shimmy at about 60-70 km/hr. It would go away with speed increase or decrease. The tires are probably out of balance but it wasn't worth spending any money to balance them. Had it up on the lift today and everything else is solid. It all looks brand new still. The undercarriage on this thing is spotless.

Better off to get an Old Man Emu steering damper -- Part number SD24.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Any idea on cost?

Ok. So I ordered the OME steering stabilizer and it arrived today. I'm trying to remove the old one and can't get it to budge. Got the nuts off of both ends but can't get it to back out of the holes. I didn't have this much trouble with my 40. I've tried pounding the bolts out with a hammer and it won't budge. Am I doing something wrong?!?!

Yes. It was. Once I got a pitman arm puller.

I've always had to use a puller to get them off. BUt you might want to soak it with penetrating oil first....good luck!

I soaked it with PB blaster. I had a fork pry bar from when I changed it on my 40. Wouldn't budge. Pitman arm puller took 5 minutes.

The Old Man Emu SD24's are a 100% correct application of the early 70 Series and the newere models (76/78/79) use the SD47 damper.

We stock em both here in the US :D

The aftermarket types are usually better than the OEM.
In fact most OEM suspension parts are generally rubbish. The mines here have it removed before they take delivery because they cant be bothered with the downtime doing it at the mine site 6 weeks later.
This is for both coil and leaf springs and all the shocks and dampers.
