I recently rewired my rig with a 7 pin RV plug. This setup has a 12 volt wire to maintain my trailer battery. Do I have to run a ground wire from the battery or just run the 12 volt line to the battery ? Thanks.

The 12 volt to battery...make it a home run...with at least 10 gauge wire minimum. I believe (if you have it wired properly) the white is the ground...please verify.

Make sure to put a 30 amp fuse, right after you come off the terminal...fastened to the fender or side wall. This will protect the system from overload.

Negative on the battery should be connected to the ground pin on the 7-pin RV plug. Hard to get much current through a circuit, if there's no circuit. ;)

Don't know what sort of setup you have, but, you may want to look into a 12v->12v battery charger, as you could potentially draw some serious current through that plug if you were to significantly drain the battery and then hook it up.

All the RV shop ran was a 12 volt hot wire. I guess I can run ground from the battery to the trailer.

If you are referring to your main battery make sure the neg cable runs direct to the frame.then connect ground at the rear off the frame.
In theory they should have run a complete SJO cable front to rear inside wire loom for protection.

I have a standalone battery in a battery box. I see now that I have to run a ground from the battery to the trailer. Thank for your help.

That's in case your trailer becomes uncoupled, it will activate the trailer brakes. I was told to charge it once a year and it's good to go.

'73 FJ 40 trailer socket wiring

On my '73 FJ 40 there is a 6 pin trailer socket. I found a replacement socket at NAPA(Hopkins). I want to know which wire to conect to which pin in the right sequence in order to connect the femaile reciever connector for wiring the trailer. I'm having to sort out the jerry rigged tail wiring someone had done(although they work) before I owned the truck.

Anyone have an actual Land Cruiser diagram?
