I have a loud tick coming from the front of my 80.

Was climbing out of Bakersfield on the 58.

And didn't notice it till I was in Tahachapi.

Oil pressure is 5psi at idle. 26-27psi at 3k
motor never went above 205°f and no loss of power. Shifts good.

Oil levels are all good. But the power steering.
The seal failed. Pushing fluid out while climbing. I had no idea. Fluid was dripping all the way back to the transfer case.
So when the pump fails. Will it tick?
It's the same tick at all RPM. And with no cel lights or overheating, and good oil pressure.

I think it's the pump.

Has anyone had the tick. I know they leak.
And how much fun is it going to be to swap it out. Or can I make it back home at 55mph.
I'll have a new pump in the am. $105

Do you have a stetoscope or a long screw driver/rod that you can use as a stetoscope? If this was my 80, I would keep driving if I can verify the sound is from the ps pump with a stetoscope. Swapping out pump is easy if the high pressure hose can be removed easily. I found that it is easier to remove the pump together with the high pressure hose when the hose didn't want to corporate, then remove the high pressure hose from the pump at the bench.

PS pump tick/issue would increase with RPM.
A cam chain tensioner (<$20 part super ez to replace) failure would not cause a tick and if it did the tick would increase with RPM. If the tick does not increase with RPM I would not worry much until I get home.
