Hi Guys...

I'm in the process of purchasing a 1965 FJ45 pickup but the VIN number starts with: FJ40341*** is this right??? I'm confused. I thought they should all start with FJ 45. Thx

You are correct, the VIN should start with FJ45. Odds are that is not a FJ45 frame, or someone has replaced at least the front-clip at some point. Have you verified the number on the frame and VIN tag, or just via the title? Proceed with caution, and look for issues with the frame if it does say FJ40...it would have been lengthened if it indeed has a 45 cab and bed...and this is not always done in a sound engineering fashion. :hillbilly:

The frame is not correct. I have a 45 frame that has been made. It has a 40 front and 45 rear portion. That should bring the value of the 45 down tremendously.

You guys are awesome!!!!! I almost got doped into buying an FJ40 with an FJ45 rear cab. I was so excited to buy a 45, I ignored all the little caution signs. Well, back to searching for my dream truck (FJ45 pickup / FJ45 Troopy).

Again, thank you very much for the info.

Not to hijack your thread but how does the vin correspond o the production year? My 45 has a vin fj45236318. From Austrailia. Has a round bezel & gas tank under the driver's seat. These things indicate that it is ore 79, but title says it is a 79. Can I verify the year from the vin? Can't read the number on the frame yet would have to sandblast it

first few months of 79 production were still 78 body style at least in 40 series. Jan 1 1979 was the switch over, I think. Not sure if it is the same for the 45's.

Or someone switched the tag. Happens when people lose the title.

Have to check the frame number to know for sure.

I FOUND THE "IT" , RACINGJUNK.COM ..............BEWARE
*** SUPER CLEAN 1965 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER ***

A quick look at that red one indicates bed, tailgate not correct; hard top from an FJ40 with large curved rear windows and large center rear window; rear leaf pack too thin for an FJ45; more, etc..

May satisfy someone's needs, but misrepresented as a true FJ45.

Run, run, run. There are no genuine FJ45 bits on the rig posted on racingjunk.com (the latter part of the website is aptly named IMHO). Caveat emptor, or buyer-beware, this is someone's poor execution of creating a 45 out of 40 bits and pieces, and a bed off of an old Nissan pickup. :flush:

fake fj45

If you go to Proffitt's cruisers list 09/01/2012. Jeremiah shows a picture of the first fj45 they made from a fj40 this one looks pretty similar. At least he did not misrepresent what it was !
