My 89, recently returned from Toyota, runs rough at start (starts right up, but idles and accelerates rough). I replaced the #2 O2 sensor, but haven't gotten to the other yet. Plus my cats are probably clogged (taking care of that tonight). Once I drive a couple of blocks it begins to run better. What are possible symptoms? O2 sensor? I have read threads regarding the cold start injector. All help appreciated as always. Thanks.

Cold start injector would be my first thought but also look for any wierdnes in the vac lines and main intake hose as well.
Thanks David. I had come across some of your previous replies regarding these issues, so I had hoped you would chime in. One thing I failed to mention is that I had rewired the O2 sensor I put in because it appeared I had wired it wrong the first time I installed it (the PO had removed the wiring harness so I used a universal sensor). The truck ran better before I did this. So I was wondering if this is happenstance or if now that this sensor is wired correctly, it is running bad because the other sensor is bad and needs to be replaced? Thanks,

I thought problems with the cold start injector would only cause a delayed start up. Once started the other injectors take over, don't they? How long has this problem existed?

Do you own a FSM. If not I will look when I get home. Also there are tons of post on here about this same problem. From what I remember start troubleshooting with the ign. sys. spark plugs and wires. rotor and button, coil.

Jsut for grins replace all the tune up crap if it is old.

Usually cold start injector will cause rough running until the truck warms up so it could also be the cold srtart time sensor in the thermostat housing telling the CS injector you are alreay warmed up and no need to squirt. If is all functions well you need to flow test it and make sure it is not all crapped up and blocking the flow.

The O2 I doubt is the problem. It can cause rough running but usually it starts OK then gets rough after it is fully warm. RUn the codes.
