DISCLAIMER: I'm a total auto tard. I can change a tire and check the oil, and that's about it. Though I hang about and watch when I can, and have been browsing my hooge LC repair manual as a little light bedtime reading.
BACKGROUND: About a month ago, I purchased 89 FJ 62 with 141K on it. The PO said he recently had the oil changed and put in a K&N air filter. The only work done since I've had it was to replace the busted air intake with a generic one (an LC one is currently en route from cruiserparts.net), drain and replace the gear oil in the differentials, fix the power windows, and mostly recently, install a stereo.
Now a funny thing has started. It idles realllllly rough, and sometime the brake and battery lights blink, especially as I'm getting ready to park. As of this morning, it stalled as I was turning into the driveway at work.
I want to see if that shabby intake hose is falling off. But it requires 2 ppl to open the hood (bum spring on the latch), and I'm alone for the day. This evening I should be able to have a peep at it.
If it's not that, any ideas where to look next?
TIA,
Korina
