I think my alernator is crapping out. All of the lights are on and the battery guage is low. Searching on here says that is most likely the problem and have done done some tests to see so. I was wondering if the 93 and up alternator would work. I got a 3FE all stock. What I got from searching is that these are interanlly regulated right?
Thanks Adam

Well I just saw the other alternator thread but oh well. I was wondering about the Leece Neville alternator. How many of you guys are running them and do you like them?

Just got done testing the alternator with a volt meter and it seemed like it was putting out 11.5 volts or so at idle didnt try it at higher speeds should have though. This should be about normal shouldnt it? Would that be low enough to cause the brake, battery, and AT oil light come on and not go off?

Dont know if this helps
I got my Alternator checked today.
I took it to Pepboys, but they could not get it tested, they were cool enought to send me to another place that does auto-electrical work.
It read 13 volts at idle speed.

Edit: No charge on the testing as it was out of the vehicle.....

I think I might be doing that this weekend. hopefully it is just that and not something else in the wiring.

B+ terminal to ground should be around 14.5 V at idle with nothing on; 13-13.8 with all crap on. Check ENGINE fuse and CHARGE fuse. Charge light on when you turn the key to start? Seatbelt chime? No chime no charge light = engine fuse/charge fuse.

Fuseable link or junction fuseable link to harness could also be corroded.

62 alts are great; only replace with OEM

Here's a picture of my Leece Neville alternator. Wasn't too hard to modify the brackets to get it to fit.

Nice PIC. That is on a 2F FJ 60 not a 3FE FJ 62, dont see the relevance.

That is a GM CS series alt. What is the output at idle?

Ya I was wondering how you got it right up on top in the easy position. It sucks getting down to it. I think I might take it out this weekend take it apart as far as I feel comfortable and clean it all out and see if there is mud then have it tested. I checked the charge fuse and that seemed all right I will check the Engine fuse. I havent noticed the charging light but I think comes on when it is at start.

Just meter it at the B+ and see what ya got. Any thing less than 14v means repalcement. Ypu can dick around with it a bunch and wast a lot of time but if it does not put out new alt is the only recourse unless you can rebuild whatya got.

The B+ is the bolt and wire right about the plug right? If it is then that is were I tested it and damn it looks like I need a new alternator.

Don't forget that has to get back to the battery so check your wiring too.

In a perfect situation B+ and batt + are the same voltage Usually you will lose about 3/4 volt due to the cables
