I'm actually watching this situation very closely. I did my dissertation in the part of Yemen that's been hardest hit by the flooding, and I haven't been able to get through to any of my friends or colleagues there. Seasonal flooding is a fact of life, but this is pretty extreme. FWIW, this picture is supposedly taken in Sanaa, not even in the area where the worst death and destruction have happened.

But what does this have to do w/ Mud? For me, only that I fell in love with Cruisers--like the one in the picture--in Yemen, and the one that I just got is my wife's graduation gift to me. Plenty of great stories and great pictures that I'll have to post some day. For now, though, I'm just a bit worried about my friends.

I think there would be lots of variables. Gas vs. diesel, if you've done any water proofing beyond the factory, how long you are in the water, fresh vs. brackish water, of course stock intake vs. snorkle

The factor I'll illustrate here is speed. Drop into the water with enough speed, and you can drive enough water up into the fenderwell to swamp the air filter. Once I pulled the air cleaner open, it was able to breath again and pull out of the mud.

I run 33's on mine, I have gone all the way to cover the tires, plus the 2" lift, never had a problem.

As said before, too many variables? I just had my 55 in 5ft of water- and was still running

Depends

I am sure Toyota publishies a fording depth somewhere for the cruisers and that assumes smooth driving and no splashing into the electronics and air filter but in real life it does vary considerabily. I have had a stock height FJ60 in a creek in tennessee with the hood under water for a second she sputtered and coughfed like crazy but pulled on thru ok. Got out and measured that one and the hole was just over 4 feet deep. Lucky as I have done as the above post, hit water of 12 to 18 inches deap and killed the engine right away. So Depends

I'd say up to the headlights is safe if you are slowly driving through water pushing a little wake. I've been through a river and the water was splashing over the hood, though.

OK, gotta call bull**** on this one...

2nd, but I gotta know how much the 55 is lifted.... If it's SOA with 35" meats then maybe, but anything SUA, no way.

You know it brother! And if sprung over with 35"s, 5' would still have it half-way up the windshield.

OK, look at the attached photo. Stete on the L is like 6'3" or something. I'm on the R and I'm 5'4" (STFU). Now Sheila (behind me, white) was SUA on 31's, with a 3" lift, so sorta stock. The Brown one is Steve's hugely lifted SUA (I know, how can that be SUA?) on I think 37"s. 5' would have inundated his hood and cowl. You know that with no snorkel, that 55 would have made it as far as the momentum would have taken it, with no engine power, 'cause it would have choked.

This is that guy's group of pigs that he runs with ( the internet is creepy sometimes ). The pigs here look pretty big! I want to hear from him again to see what he has to say.
