I have no experience with 60's, I have only owned the 55/40 series trucks.

But there's a '89 '62 near me for $700, rusty, both driver's side doors damaged/don't open, 200k+ miles, stock, runs/drives good.

I figure $500 max, and I'd snag the front knuckles and brakes for my 55, but here's the question: What else on this truck has any significant value?

I know there's gotta be THOUSANDS of these being parted or on the road, so is there any interest in the trim, mirrors, engine components, etc, stuff that is easily un-boltable? Or is it pretty much dime-a-dozen? I've looked thru the classifieds, but doesn't appear to be a lot of stuff that might make me back a decent portion of my $500.

I think I'd toss the complete axles under the 55. If you part it out, you WILL make money, even at 700 bucks. I tried and tried to sell my last 60 for 1800 bucks and got no bites. I got frustrated and parted it on on ebay. I made somewhere in the neighborhood of $3400. Remember though, it will be a part time job, answering questions, packing, shipping, etc.

I thought about swapping axles, but I don't want to screw with re-positioning spring perches and swapping out pinions/thirds just for the brakes.

Also, I have NO way to pull the engine, and I'm not sure about that auto tranny. I've dropped 4-sp's before, but an auto is a different animal to me.

So I have to figure what I can get without pulling these big parts.

I wouldn't swap thirds. FJ62's have fine spline pinions which are much stronger than the corse spline you currently have. you would have to take the flanges off the 62 drive shafts and put them on your 55 drive shafts though. On the spring perches, I think you are correct, you would have to move them. One answer: go SOA and do it all at the same time!!!
