Ok guys, now I'm really confused ....
i own a very clean late 85' 60 (so i thought...), last night i was checking under the hood and found the following :
1. Fj62
2. Engine : 3F Carburated
3. Trans: H41
it's a non-us vehicle (i reside in Amman-Jordan) . The problem is that as the pic i have attached shows, the body is that of an FJ60.... if any of you guys out there ever came across one of these trucks, advise if i can drop in a transmission of an HJ55 as i found one in the local scrap yard as i have halted the purchase until i figure out whats happening....
Thx

NO its a FJ62 the 2 designates the 3F engine and has nothing to do with the headlights or fuel injection. In non-US countries the FJ62 did come out before the change to square headlights.

Oops, I missed that part of the question . I think the tranny should be a direct swap. The 1985 four speed 60/62 have the proper transfercase to accept the H55F with no mods.

HTH

Nice! You have an FJ62. Carbed 3F motor was the norm after 84 in countries outside the USA, and in some countries and automatic tranny could be had with the carbed motor. I would guess that the H55f will work, but it may or may not need a different input shaft. (the gas tranny is different from some of the diesels, but not all). I never heard of an HJ55 either. Look it over carefully, there could be any sort of drivetrain in it.

The body of the FJ60 and the FJ62 were basically the same.

2H motors use 10 spline transmissions just like the petrol motors. So whatever the HJ55 may be, it could be safe to assume that if it was truely a H powered 55, then it should be 10 spline. Good Luck

Non-USA version of FJ62 was sold from 1984 with round shape headlight.
rectangle shaped headlight was equiped from 1987/09.
I think you can swap tranny to H55F without any modification.
But to ensure, if you inform me about full model name of your FJ62 and frame number on ID label, I can give you correct answer.
I suppose, your FJ62's model name must include the letter K and C isn't it ?
(ex : FJ62LV-KC, FJ62LG-KRC... etc)
The letter K means 4-speed transmission (H41), C means swing-out back door (Ambulance door).
Depending on outside lookingog your FJ62, I suppose that yours might FJ62LV-KC but I'm not ensure :)
I have plenty volume of infos about Non-USA FJ60/62.

Thanks for the help

Appreciate the help guys !
Thanks Schaats for the info and you are a 100% right, I've just checked and it reads :
FJ62 LV-KC
FJ62 013298
and funny enough that you mentioned the side-opening rear doors as my friends call my truck the Ambulance, and some have even booked places with me to carry their pregnant wives to hospital when its their due time ... sick sense of humor ...
(i like how your rig look, do you have any more pics ??)
so based on the above numbers, do you think the transmission would drop in ?

(:whoops: And its my mistake, as its an H55F, not HJ55 ... sorry ..)

I was thinking the FJ model have hole on each front side... kind of breather hole ?

Do you mean the fender vents? Those I think are only on F series NA models because of the smog equipment and the carb fan dumping out on the left hand side.... I could be wrong though.

fender vent... that was the words I looking for.

you can drop tthe h55 with no problems, in fact here in Venezuela all the late models of 60's from 84 to 92 were 3f carburated and they came with your tranny (h41) or with h55 stock. but from 1988 to 1992 were FJ62

Here's basic infomation about your FJ62 which you might already know.

Model : FJ62LV-KC (84/11-87/08)
Frame Number : FJ62-0013298
Production date : 1985/02
Engine : 3F
Body : WGV (VAN)
Transmission : 4-Speed manual floor shift
Driver's Position : Left-hand drive
Roof : Standard roof
Back door : Swing out back door
Fuel Induction : Carburetor System
Destination : General countries

Your FJ62 might have all vinyl interior instead of carpet and fabric interior.
Vinyl seat covers, vinyl sunvisor, vinyl headliner and vinyl floor mat with center 'Toyota Landcruiser" logo.
If right, yours is dust-free truck :) (Carpet keeps and holds dust easily always)

It's unusual that you said live in Jordan where is the country in middle-east area.
Toyota made and sold middle east spec. of landcruiser also. But your FJ62 is not middle east spec.

Anyway, you can swap your H41 tranny to H55F but here's also restriction.
The H55F tranny which you want to install must not from BJ series of land cruiser.
BJ 60 series has different shaft splines that you can't use it with petrol motor powered 60 series.
But from HJ 60 series can be used with FJ 60 series.
I checked and found that some BJ60 with H55F tranny were sold in middle-east area that you must check this first.
If you can do, check the information about donor vehicle you said and inform me then I'll research more.

Here's conclusion.

1. You can swap your old tranny to H55F.
2. You can re-use your transfercase and I want to recommand full rebuilding of your old and tired t-case with proper parts. (Bearings, seals, gaskets)
3. You must add small plastic oiler cup onto your t-case when disassembled.
4. You can reuse your front/rear drive shaft without modification.
5. You can reuse your old shift tower with adding of small plastic bushing.

The correct name of ambulance door is 'swing out back door' which Toyota named.
But many people prefer to use ambulance door or barn door.

You can see my truck at this post https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=58419

If you want more infos, inform me anytime.
