Be prepared for gradual replacement of all components as it is a 20+ years old. If you are ready to take that on you will not be disappointed. I drove mine as a DD for several years and get ready to pump some fuel into your ride.

Overhanger, I appreciate that. Here's more info about that day: It was about 10 below zero and windy. I have AAA, so the rollback (tow truck) ride was mostly paid for. I do understand the electrical system, but I was taking no chances that day! The cab of the rollback was warm! :)

If you DD a 60's waggy, a AAA card is a good thing to have!

+1 again on the AAA.

Spring for the AAA+
It's worth it:beer:

There's a woman behind this question. I'd put money on that. What kind of man asks if he should drive his truck as his daily driver? Man up, put your ass in the driver's seat and fix it when it needs fixin'. 'Nuff said.

HA !!! I've been married almost 20 YRS and I saw that one comming a mile away !!!! HAHAHAH !!!!

Viggen:

I would go with a '60 myself. Once you go through it and replace what needs fix'en it won't let you down. I am very happy with mine and I put in a 5 speed (HF55).

About the high gas cost, think about the money you will save in car payments and all the dealership BS that goes with a modern car. Heck I've been told the new Mercedes does not even have a dipstick to check the oil ??? I might as well trade my nuts for the keys to that ride :)

Hope to count you as a '60 owner.

'88 FJ62 is the only family vehicle we have. 273,000 miles. I love it, my wife would prefer more bells and whistles. 11.3 mpg on the average. just drove 200 miles yesterday in and around the Rocky Mountains. Gutless motor, but it will get you where you want to go...yesterday we did miles of dirt roads to downtown Denver to interstates to winding 2 lane country roads. Not a problem. Hasn't let us down yet. Standard maintanance issues i.e. fuel pump, misc oil leaks, steering components, etc, but all repairable in my garage. Buy a Toyota Factory Service Manual. My son gets this FJ in 3 years, and I'm already looking for another...
