Hi all..I have 2008 model VDJ200 diesel landcruiser with 6 speed A/T gearbox. does anyone know when does the artificial inteligence starts to work. is it when the ECT button is switched to on position?. Also, is there a time sheet to show complete acceleration time till the 6th gear. i only know that 0 to 100kph is 8.2s in the diesel.

A/I senses inclines and declines and shifts accordingly. ECT button does nothing more then make your transmission shift quicker and holds gears longer into redline. As for the time sheet, go buy yourself a stop watch and make your own.

@ 007-FJC thanks will keep in mind. when you say ECT holds gears a little longer (i have noticed that), is it safe to use it as a normal operation full time. Is it not wearing down the gearbox or safe to use at high speeds?.

Its fine to use all the time, no harm will come to the tranny, however your MPGs will suffer. Its intended for use in mountains, sporty driving, and towing, its helpful since it makes the tranny drop gears more often and hold through more of the power band.

^^ What he said ^^

It's easy enough to test AI-Shift.

Find a safe, long, steep downhill stretch of road, and coast down that road at a reasonably fast speed. Then dab on the brakes - you'll see the gearbox downshift on its own because the revs will go up.

That's AI- Shift, intervening, trying to slow down the vehicle.

I know ECT has different shift points and holds gears longer, but not that they were any quicker. I'd love this to be true, but any documentation on this?

Shift timing is a critical component to Ford/GM aftermarket programmers.

I'd really like to find official documentation on what ECT does exactly.
