What seemed to be a very easy decision turned into being harder than naming my children. Let me preface by saying I probably could have made my decision in a day after my final choice was made.

I went back and forth on so many brands, styles, beadlock and color. Numerous phone calls to wheel companies about warranties, weights, specs, website wheel simulators and of course every thread I could find on mud. It was overload. I finally narrowed it down to 4.

Fuel Anza black with gray lip
Fuel trophy black with gray lip
Method double standard black with machine lip
TRD Rock Warrior

Late in the game I really wanted SCS wheels stealth 6. Not made for us unfortunately and although they have plans for a 20" 5x150 i didn't want 20's and they thought they might make 18's but no guarantee and not anytime soon. Another option was the new Tundra TRD Pro wheels coming late this year which the downfall to me was regular alloy wheels and painted black of same design of current tundra trd model. Nothing too special.

What I struggled the most with was quality and what would "fit" best on my precious Land Cruiser. I didn't want to deal with the "aftermarket" shakes and balancing issues.

In the end, I purchased the TRD Rock Warrior due to forged alloy, made by Toyota for the LC, warranty extended through my new car warranty and felt it was the most solid all around wheel available for me.

I am pairing it with Toyo open country AT2. 285/70/17.

TRD's arrive mid next week and tires are in stock now. I am having my local dealership install everything to keep full warranty.

Will post pics when installed. I can finally sleep soundly knowing this decision was made and feel it was the best one. Now I can go back to my custom sliders and getting those completed. Stay tuned!

It didn't have to be that difficult of a decision right????

You're right ... easy choice:

You will love the A/T IIs. I was going to go with the same setup when I found a sidewall cut right before a trip to NW Wyoming but the time frame just did not work right .... Even with a special shipping offer from beno.

Went with a set of P275/65/17s (slightly narrower and taller than OEM) and after 750 miles, I am seriously impressed.

I will get the TRD when at some point in the future ....

Believe me I looked at your truck a number of times since I have same color!

Elk - Any other reason you stayed with p rated on the at2? Other than ride quality and mpg? I was going with LT. Wasn't sure how much of a ride difference it would make. Never had toyos before. On the bfg ko I couldn't tell difference with LT.

@codyaustin5 I stayed with P's for a couple of reasons, but the biggest was that these are not my end-game tires. The reasons were:
  1. Unsprung weight - these tires were closer to OEM weight than the LTs while carrying the same load index.
  2. Cost - I do not have the cost details in front of me, but they were ~$90 a tire less expensive than the LTs in 275/70 or 285/65 variety
I can tell a slight difference in off the line acceleration, but nothing big. Handling is, if anything, crisper than the OEMs. I made a very early morning blitz up the Chief Joseph Highway from Cody to Yellowstone for some animal peeping and caught myself running wayyyy above the speed limit several times because I really did not feel like I was pushing the truck that hard ... nor did my passenger as there were no screams from the :princess:

Each time I caught myself, I backed down a bit since coming around a blind corner to meet a herd of elk will ruin your whole day. :grinpimp:

I have found the tire pressure "sweet spot" for my LT285/70R17E 121/118R BFG AT T/A KO tires to be 38psi F/R - should be the same for your AT2's.

Thanks after reading a lot about pressures I thought I would start at 40. Last post I saw from you was at 39psi.

Sam - I shopped around and found the best price for LT 285/70/17 - $220 each and P rated $205 each. I figure I would rather have the LT based on some trails we will seeing this summer and peace of mind off road. I just saw some roads were melting up in YellowStone and closed due the extreme heat from the volcano?

My blitz through Yellowstone was on June 25 and I did not see much of that activity. We went in the NE gate and came out the East gate. Saw ~50 Mountain Goats, ~40 Bighorns, 1 Grizzly, 1 Cow Elk, ~20 Mule Deer, couple hundred Pronghorns (speed goats) and the obvious 17 bazillion buffalo. The Mountain Goats with young 'uns and the Bighorns were the treat and the reason for us even venturing into the crowds in the park.

Your prices are comparable to what I found. When I realized the TRD wheels were not going to happen for me at this time, I looked at 18s and the price comparisons I gave were for 18s. I think my local guy could get me the tires you are getting for about $5 more each. The 18s were running near $300 each ...

Tires are in! They look beefy! TRDs arrive on Friday.

Oh, the horror! Plasti-dip black over perfectly good TRD gunmetal grey wheels? [Did I just type "plasti-dip" and "TRD" in the same sentence?]

You probably can see that I don't think it would be a good idea ...

:(

If you want a different color after spending the coin on the TRD wheels, you'd be better off finding a really good powercoater ... My $.02

Lol you know it peels right off with no affect on wheels. I looked at powder coat and couldn't justify them sanding down perfectly good trds and baking them. If u look at my other choices of wheels I really wanted black with machine lip. Just like the look and think it looks good on silver. Getting installed on Tuesday and wifey dropped a full weekend on me so you all may get your wish as I won't have time to change anything.

The following are a few pics from some of Das' touring build efforts from Autocraft downunder. These are pc however rather than plastidipped.

Thanks. Your photo makes them look much more aggressive than the stock pictures. Very nice.
