5W 30?

OK, another stupid question (you'll get used to me ). Are you all really running 5W 30 motor oil? That's what the manual says for my 1999.

Use Mobil 1 with a preference to 0w-40, but the 5w-30 will work fine also.

Yup M1 5w30 for me.

yep, M1 5w30 here.
The local Toyota master mechanic gets bent about the 0w40 (despite the M1 assurance that it's a replacement for their 5w30) because he says the V8 engine is engineered for a 30 weight and a 40 weight would be too thick.
What the hey. Cary says it's all good, and he's The Man on oil.

Alright, bought the filter at lunch, will grab some Mobile 1 5W30 on my way home.

You can run any SL energy conserving 5w30 motor oil and change it every 3-5K miles and you should get 250-500K trouble free miles from the 4.7 V8 engine. This engine makes all oils look good. Check out the used oil analysis on the Toyota 4.7's at www.bobistheoilguy.com

I'll take a slightly different tact.

1) I wouldn't go so far as to say any SL rated oil. I would suggest sticking with name brand oils from Chevron, Pennzoil, Castrol, etc.

2) For the time it takes to get oil, or have it changed, I would much rather run Mobil 1 at 7500mile intervals.
