I just found out that I can pick up a Landcruiser hdj80 5 speed gearbox and constant 4wd transfer from a out of country friend of the family. This gearbox is a h151. They are going to send bellhousing, gearbox transfer driveshafts, crossmember, wiring loom, shafters, clutch fork and throw out bearing.
How hard of a conversion would this be? And what kind of complications can I expect

Impossible, just keep those parts packed up and I'll be by soon to get them. :D

I've thought about this alot. The first thing is physically getting the tranny to mate to the engine, in Aus and other places a 5sp was put behind the same 1FZ-FE engine we have, so that would be the bellhousing you'd want. If your's came from a HDJ80, I *think* that is a diesel, which means bellhousing would be iffy at best. If you have the correct bellhousing, then you still need a 1FZ-FE flywheel, probably pilot bearing for the tranny input shaft, then all the clutch pieces, then some sort of tranny crossmember, but that could be fabbed up. Hopefully the tranny and t/c are still together, I'd leave them together. Then just find a hole in the floor for the shifter, rig up some t/c linkage, as it'll probably be different slightly, and poof it's 'in'. However, simply disconnecting the auto tranny from the computer and expecting it to be happy I think is a bit optimistic. I don't know what you'd need to do to either fool the ECU into something, or getting another ECU which doesn't have the connector for the automatic. Christo mentioned prevoiusly how a 5sp equipped Cruiser has 3 plugs on the ECU and the auto has 4, so maybe as simple as putting in the correct ECU...

If the ECU doesn't see the automatic, I would guess it would put the computer in some fail-safe mode, where it'd run and drive but probably at a lower power level, like if it notices a sensor missing or something, goes into a self protective mode.

There are others who have put manual trannies into their FZJ80's however, not exactly sure what they did.

Good Luck, that's the exact swap I'd love to do in mine.

don't forget about the clutch pedal, clutch master cylinder, and the tubing/hose from the clutch master to the clutch slave cylinder.....
