I found a 2-1/8" socket at Tractor Supply but it's standard depth, will this work? Or do i need a deep well socket?
I assumed I needed a deep well to absorb the spindle, so didn't purchase it.

54/25.4=2.126"

Just order the real deal from anywhere. Pretty much every vendor associated with MUD sells one. Or next day it from Amazon if you need it quick.

Most standard sockets have too large of wall thickness to fit inside the diameter of the hub. Go with a special hub socket. A number of auto parts stores carry them or a number of mud vendors have them.

I got a 2 1/8th at Sears. It’s not too thick in the walls. I think it’s standard. Although that was years ago... not even sure if they’re open anymore.

Not around here. I found every size spindle nut wrench from 2 3/8" to 4", I hit NAPA, Auto Zone, O'Rilles, Advanced, and two other places....I found bearing play yesterday and wanted to fix it while I had the time. I know I can get them on line, but I wanted to fix it yesterday, not next weekend. Ah well if wishes were fishes and all that crap.

I also bought my 2 1/8 socket at sears. Works perfect.

I use a craftsman 2 1/8 socket which works better than the stamped metal one

Found mine at northern tool, think it was $18

Filing the end of a stamped metal hub socket so they have a flat face makes the world of difference.
Every one I've seen has a scalloped face which means they don't sit snug against the hub nut and get barely any purchase on the nuts.

Northern Tool? Hu, there's one next to my favorite beverage store. I'll look there. Thank you for the pointer.

you can get a good one from witsend he will ship it fast, I had a buddy give me his auto repair garage today lift and all took aprt the front ubs up on lift, and forgot the socket. wtf??

Northern Tool struck out.:poop:
The local Sears outlets have closed..:poop::poop:
I get the feeling Columbia SC just doesn't like LC's, can't hardly get parts; forget about special tools. :bang:
Resigning myself to project planning and ordering everything on-line. I'd really rather give my money to local businesses, but if they don't support the machine, tough noogy for them.

Just watch, I'll be doing this job the Friday night before our first long haul trip to Bonneville NY just before Christmas.
(that's why I got the new thrust washers) ;)

Try Tractor Supply

Too late. Ordered a low profile 6 point one.

Oh....but did you order the one that has the extra cutouts to use on the REAR axle too?

Because the rear axle nut is nothing like the front one.........

Noooo....but the rear can be done with a flat bar turned into a spanner. Or a couple of punches and a large screw driver.
