5 tire rotation thoughts

do you all rotate your spare into the mix? I do because well, after 5 to 6 years tires just start to dry out and wear down... So I figure, lets get some use out of it and when all 5 are used up! I will buy 5 all new tires.... I mean isn't the point of a full size "suv" tire meant to get you home when you need it most!

Let me know your thoughts. Every time I rotate I ask to do the 5 tire rotation and the tire guys give me a blank look like why??

I'm a firm believer in the 5 tire rotation:

Advantages:

- All 5 tires wear, over time, at the same rate keeping all 5 tire diameters the same
- Assures that my spare gets checked, used and rotated regularly so that it is more likely to be ready when I need it
- When all 5 tires are due for replacement, I can purchase 5 new tires without worrying about having to match an unused spare
- It makes me feel good

My owner's manual says to do the 5 tire rotation and I think it makes sense too.

Yes all the same size and brand... Want to keep all 5 exactly the same size

Yes. The stock spare wheel and tire on the Land Cruiser are exactly the same as the four other mounted wheels and tires.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm going to consider the next time I need rubber. I fear the shop guys will need close supervision though. Has that been your experience?w

I typically rotate my own tires, but took it to a shop last time. I just asked that they rotate all five tires and it was no issue.

Usually, the spare is so filthy from being under the truck that it's not hard to tell where it was rotated in. The bracing underneath also tends to leave a mark on the tires. A quick post-rotation inspect should suffice to ensure the job was done properly.

I've had mixed results when asking dealership to rotate x5. So my feeling is do it yourself to know it's done right.

I actually started to put blue painters tape on the rims telling them what position to rotate the tires to... I have no faith in the dealership or even tire shops.... I want it done right but at the same time am to lazy to do it myself lol

the last time I took my father in laws 2007 100 series I told them to repack the front bearings they told me it was going to take 1200 dollars to replace all new bearing and that land cruiser bearings are Unpackable... I took it to a toyota guy I know and he did it for me 250 bucks... I am looking for a good land cruiser mechanic though if anyone knows one in Salt Lake City... off subject lol

I copy the tire rotation page from the owners manual and give it to the techs, still get the blank look.
