Thread resurrection alert...
This came up for me recently when I had a 5-way tire rotation done prior to a long trip. I am trying to use the spare and not just let it sit unused for years, rot and become useless.

The tire shop said they could do a 5-way tire rotation if all the tires were worn within a small amount. This they said was due to the fact that the LC is a full time 4x4. The tires were all within the size spec they mentioned (sorry I don't recall the exact amount) so I didn't pursue it.

I am aware that there are many full time AWD cars that require all 4 tires to be very close to the same size and that if you need to replace one, well, you probably have to replace all four. Too bad.

However, the 200 series LC has two differentials and a center differential, not a simple transfer case. It is my understanding that this allows the front and rear shafts to spin at different speeds.

By contrast, my old Chevy K5 Blazer was a part time 4x4 and had an old-fashioned transfer case which was different; it had no ability to slip the front and rear shafts, so it was an issue. Heck, the owner's manual even said not to run in 4WD on pavement unless it was wet or in snow.

So, when it comes to a 5-way tire change where one tire, the spare, might have a bit less wear does the different tire size issues go away due to the LC's center differential?
