Hello, I'm more often at other forums here in MUD but recently got a 2000 SR5 4runner for my wife and the front axle is not engageing.

I have some experience with cruisers but none with toyota trucks or 4runners, let alone IFS axles, so I searched here and on a 4runners specific forum (toyota-4runner.org) with no luck.
On the 4 runner forum I found a thread on the subject but the info on it was pretty vague. Some talked about dirty sensors, others about switches and a third person said he had his fixed by replacing some vaccum lines, but all the experiences where second hand so I really didn't get much out of it.
Maybe someone here has experience with this and could tell me what to check first?

needless to say all help will be greatly appreciated

Regards

Fernando

On my 4runner a vacuum hose "fell" off so 4wd didn`t engage. I was a simple fix, just put it back where it was supposed to be!

Its not a difficult system, it has ADD which is a vacuum system for shifting the front axle in and out of 4wd. You can see two hoses in front of the diff and I think they lead up to the left side of the engine when looking into the engine department. Just follow these and a few others around the alternator and you should find the problem.

I havent heard of a shifting fork that has been broken so I dont think that is the problem. Do not be confused about the electric wiring to the front diff, it has nothing to do with engaging it. Its just one of two sensors which triggers the 4wd light on your dash. The other sensor is in the transfer case.

I hope this will help you solve your problem... :)

I checked the vacuum lines today and everything seems to be allright, could it be this valve that boging me? I tried blowing on it from either side and it seems to be blocked, is this normal?
